Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 28 September 2026
We want bmicalculatornhs.net to be usable by everyone, including people using assistive technologies. This statement describes our approach and how to report accessibility problems.
Our commitment
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, and to meet our obligations under the UK Equality Act 2010.
Measures we take
- Semantic HTML structure with a single main heading per page and logical heading order;
- Keyboard-navigable navigation, including a "skip to content" link and a labelled mobile menu button;
- Form labels on calculator inputs and visible focus states;
- Text alternatives or aria-hidden treatment for decorative icons;
- Colour choices based on the NHS design palette with attention to contrast;
- Responsive layouts that reflow on small screens without horizontal scrolling of text.
Known limitations
Some older pages may have imperfections, such as skipped heading levels or dense tables that are harder to navigate with a screen reader on small screens. We are working through these as part of ongoing improvements. Third-party content (advertisements and embedded analytics) is outside our direct control.
Feedback and reporting issues
If you find an accessibility barrier on this site, or need content in an alternative format, please tell us:
Email: info@bmicalculatornhs.net
Please include the page URL and a description of the problem. We aim to respond within 2 working days.
Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), which is responsible for enforcing accessibility regulations in Great Britain.
